ISS International School (Singapore) is an independent K-12 IB World School located in the heart of Singapore. We have approximately 722 students ages 3 to 19, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. We have approximately 80 members of faculty.
Our school was founded in 1981 by Mr Chan Chee Seng. Mr Chan was the first Asian to establish an International School. The ISS Education Group also includes the Centre for American Education (Singapore), the United States Education and Information Centre (Singapore), and Beijing International School Singapore (Beijing).
ISS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC, California). We are also authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Program, IB Middle Years Program, and the IB Diploma Program. We are registered with the Ministry of Education in Singapore, and are members of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the East Asian Council of International Schools (EARCOS). ISS is registered with the Ministry of Education in Singapore.
Mr Anthony Race is the Head of ISS. ISS is governed by a Committee of Management (School Board) consisting of 8 members.
Our mascot is the Mustang! We are the Mustangs!
ISS is the only school in Singapore (and one of only a few in the world) to completely specialize in IB curriculum. We have no competing pedagogical programs to conflict with providing an academic program that is consistent with the spirit that they were developed.
Our Elementary and Middle School Campuses (K-8) are located near Orchard Road (25A Paterson Road), and our High School Campus (9-12) is located on top of a lush and green tropical hill about 12km away (21 Preston Road).
ISS is a co-educational multi cultural school. By design, we have no dominant nationality, and we like it that way. Our students feel comfortable mixing between national groups which increases our international feel. There are almost 50 nationalities represented at ISS.
ISS is well known for its outstanding and caring faculty. We hire only highly experienced and well qualified teachers. Many of our teachers are IB Workshop Leaders and examiners. Our average tenure is also above international school averages.
A 12-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio allows our students to receive individual attention.
99% of our students live in Singapore. One hearty student commutes every day from Johor, Malaysia. She has never been late or absent.
25% of High School and 10% of Middle School students live with guardians, as their parents are overseas.
Grade 11 and 12 students all must perform the IB’s Creativity, Action and Service program before they can graduate. This includes more than 150 hours of extracurricular activities outside of school. Many of our students will double this requirement and participate in more than 300 hours of extracurricular activities.
Throughout the year, ISS offers a wide variety of Extra Curricular Activities (ECA’s) in all three sections of the school.
At the Elementary School, 75 to 80% of students attend at least one offering per week. Activities such as Soccer, Tennis, Netball, Cricket and Playball are just a few of the sports undertaken after 2:30pm. Other offerings include Piano, Art Club, Drama club, Ballet, Jazz and Scottish Country Dancing, Chess, Power Point Club, Musical Theatre as well as many others.
Middle School students are expected to take at least one ECA per week and can choose from sports such as Basketball, Soccer, Netball, Tae Kwon Do, Yoga, Field Sports and other sporty activities that arise as the events with other schools occur. Other ECAs include Chess, Band, Art Club, Language Club, Student Newsletter production, Musical/Drama productions (the latest one being a production of “Annie Jr.”) as well as assorted other activities which occur throughout the year.
At the High School, intellectual pursuits such as Chess, Model United Nations, Language Clubs, Stock Market Club, Environmental Club and many others are offered. Artsy types can choose from Hip Hop dancing, Art Club, Drama productions, Newspaper Club, ESL Club and others. Students train for and compete in interschool sports such as Basketball, Soccer, Rugby, Volleyball, Badminton, Cross Country and Athletics. New sports and activities are being introduced every year. We have over 90% participation in some form of ECA by our senior student body.
ISS relies on 100% on tuition. Generous parent and corporate donations enable us to fund special projects, such as purchasing additional digital Smartboards or enhancing the library collection.
