Bus Guidelines

ISS will work closely with our appointed Bus Operator, Smoothway Transport Service to provide parents and students with the best possible service. We take the safety and comfort of our students travelling on the buses seriously. In order to ensure the best possible experience for all involved, the following guidelines should be observed:

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

  • There will be a designated pickup point at each condominium – either at the guardhouse or main gate, not at individual units or blocks. The bus will not provide a door-to-door service. Please do not ask the bus attendant to escort your child/children to your apartment or complex. This is too time consuming and causes delays for the other children on board.
  • Please contact the bus driver or School Transport Executive anytime after 6.30 a.m. and before your child’s scheduled pickup time if you know that your child will be absent and will not ride on the bus for the day. (Please see the attached list of bus driver’s numbers). The contact number for the School Transport Executive, Mr. Richard Lee is 6235-1015 (Office) / 9646-6188 (Mobile).
  • Please be on time to meet your child at the end of the day. If no one is present to pick your child up when he/she is dropped off at the pickup point, the bus driver will send your child back to the school and you will be contacted to pick him/her up at your own expense. Please be punctual for the morning pickup and do not wait until you see the bus before rushing down the stairs or elevator to catch the school bus. The delay in picking up one student will affect the time schedule in picking up other students and cause everyone to be late for school. If your child is old enough to walk home from the drop off point by himself/herself, please inform the driver in advance so that the driver will not wait for you or your helper to walk your child home.
  • Due to changes in addresses and enrollment fluctuations especially during the first two weeks of school, there may be adjustments in the pickup time. Our School Transport Executive will inform you one day in advance if your child’s pickup time is affected. Please be assured that we will try to make as few changes as possible and do bear with us during the transition period. We regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding that there may be unforeseen circumstances.
  • In view of variable road and weather conditions such as road works, heavy rain or other traffic conditions, the driver may on occasion not be able to reach the pickup and drop off point on time. Hence we seek your patience and kind understanding and assure you that the drivers will do their utmost to ensure that your child is picked up or drop off punctually.
  • Request for changes of buses will not be allowed without a valid reason. Request for changes to assigned buses due to birthday parties, playing after school, sleepovers etc. will not be allowed as these creates a lot of confusion and may jeopardize insurance on compliance with bus use regulations.

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS

  • The bus will depart from school ten minutes after dismissal time. Students travelling on the buses should queue up at their designated bus waiting area to have their attendance marked by teachers before they board the bus.
  • If a student who commutes regularly by the school bus has plans for alternative transport arrangement on a particular day, please notify the school through the following methods:

Elementary School Student

    • Write the change in the student’s communication book;
    • Email the class teacher one day in advance; or
    • Call the general office to inform the secretary or staff.

Middle School Student

    • Write the change in the student’s Homework Diary;
    • Email the class teacher one day in advance; or
    • Call the general office to inform the secretary.

For the High School Student, the bus will depart at 3.15 pm sharp from the designated bus waiting area. If the student does not board the bus on time, he/she will have to make his/her own way home.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR OF STUDENTS ON THE BUS

  • Students must fasten their seat belts before the bus takes off.

  • Students should be courteous towards the driver, bus attendants and other fellow students on board the bus.

  • A bus attendant will be present on any bus carrying Elementary School students. The students should obey the instructions of the bus attendants as they are there to ensure their safety and to assist them in getting on and off the bus.

  • Students who misbehave or disregard the rules on the bus will be disciplined by the respective Heads of School – Elementary School students by Mr. George Piacentini, Middle School students by Ms. Melanie Hughes and High School students by Mr. Mark McCallum.

    • Appropriate actions will be taken against the misbehaving student and this may include changing of the student’s seat on the bus.
    • If the student continues to misbehave, the parents will be notified to meet with the designated Administrator and School Transport Executive.
    • Further misdemeanors will result in a one-week suspension from using the bus.
    • Three suspensions will result in a ban from using the school bus services for the remainder of the semester without any refund.

Should you have any queries and concerns about the bus service, please contact the School Transport Executive, Mr. Richard Lee at 6235-1015 (Office) / 9646-6188 (Mobile).
